First, read the article about Ling and her family.   Then, answer the comprehension questions about the article.  Next, click on the link "22 Emergency Phone Numbers" to learn about the phone numbers you should have in case of an emergency.  Then, complete the "Emergency Contact List" with phone numbers that are important for your family communication in an emergency.

Wildfires in California are a serious problem during the hot, summer months.  We will study in class about wildfires.

The Math Word Problems section is especially important.   This section is a language lesson so it is very important to pay attention.  

Write about the weather in your home country.   Please do not use translation programs to translate complete sentences.  It is okay to translate single words, but not to translate complete sentences

We will discuss the definitions of these vocabulary words in class.  Then, for homework you must complete the translation of the words to your first language.  

Some words are both nouns and verbs.  How the word is used in a sentence will show you if the word a noun or a verb.  

We will complete this activity in class.  The first time we will listen without looking at the text.  The second time we listen, we will follow the text at the same time.  After the third time listening, we will fill in the spaces.   
PLEASE REMEMBER - the most important part of this assignment is listening; it is not as important to fill in the spaces the first time you listen.

For nouns that end with a consonant before an -o add -es  

For nouns that end in “f” or “fe”, remove the “f” or “fe” and add “ves” 

For nouns that end in -y with a vowel before the -y just add -s

For nouns that end in -y with a consonant before the -y, change the -y to -i and add -es.

Add -es to nouns that end in -ch, -sh, -s, -x, or -z.

Add an -s to the end of these nouns to make them plural nouns.

This is an in-class activity.   You will receive credit if you are in class the day we complete this assignment.   If you are not in class on the day we complete this assignment, you will not receive credit.
